Pakistan is situated along the converging boundary of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, making it one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
Its position on active fault lines leads to frequent and sometimes severe seismic activity. Regions such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and Gilgit-Baltistan lie along the southern edge of the Eurasian plate, while Sindh, Punjab, and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir rest on the northwestern edge of the Indian plate.
The ongoing tectonic collision between these plates significantly increases the risk of powerful earthquakes in the area.
