I must question what the point of banning someone is if they're allowed to come back with another sock account to do the same thing? This is supposed to be a memorial thread for members of our cyber-community who have passed on. It's no more an infringement on free speech stopping this disrespectful troll than it is to cite someone for inciting a riot by screaming "fire" in a darkened theater.

Why is this member allowed to violate the forum rules with impunity? Does he have to post another picture with kids in it to get banned this time? Or is banning now reserved strictly for spammers (after their third round of spam threads, of course). And what's the point if he's allowed to simply pull out another sock and trash up the forums again?

Considering this thread was/is a sticky thread it must hold some importance @ILoveMyJob . At least it did at one time. Freedom of expression, freedom of the spoken and written word is important. I gave over 20 years of my life fighting for that right. But I also know that right should not be allowed to be abused, to cause an environment so disconcerting it causes destruction. Even if the destruction is just a basic porn forum.

You have a responsibility to stop that from happening.

 

Very true, but this is more than veering off topic. This is mean-spirited vandalism of a thread about members of the community who have died. It's the cyber equivalent of defacing a gravestone. It's an issue of respect.

This troll has been at it for years, but only recently found this particular thread to trash. If rule #7 still applies, he and his socks (some of them apparently banned by you, since you're the only authority figure we know of) are in clear violation. Obviously, this troll and his socks are disruptive and detrimental. Read the reactions to his posts. He often re-posts the same inane photos and gifs posted by another of his identities but later removed.

I'm not trying to be combative, but I don't understand.

 

ILMJ will not intervene because the troll is employed by the forum perhaps just to boost post count!

ILMJ does not give a fuck about members past and departed, she is only interested in boosting post count and future members!

It's all understandable but perhaps we can make a deal to keep the memorial thread as a sticky on page two!

I don't normally agree with @ilmj but do on this one. This thread is a thorn and should never have been pinned ... and you can take it too the bank that NO thread will be pinned again unless it is from admin.

This place is here to generate revenue and is a business and the forums are a sideline to that. They could drop this section in a heartbeat without a second thought so be careful what you wish for, it may just come true ...

Gee, thanks a lot. I'm sure every legitimate (not sock) member who posted in it to help celebrate the life of someone who passed on really appreciates it.

Maybe an idea proposed a few posts above this is really true. If hit counts here and on the story site are used (deceptively, since there's no advertising in either place) to show advertisers on the videos site how active this place is, it makes a (dishonest) kind of sense.

Troll and spammer threads are posts. The reactions to them by members are also posts. Disruptive, hateful posts are still posts, right? It doesn't matter that those hit counts actually have no legitimate value to someone buying advertising space. Why be honest with paid advertising customers if you're not going to treat the non-paying people who made the site grow with even a shred of decency? We're all just numbers, right?

No wonder this site is losing active, participating members. No wonder intelligent posts and threads are being displaced by idiots who can't figure out that General Discussion is not the place to get their dick rated. No wonder story submissions, new games, and everything else are far less than they were a year ago.

This place is falling apart more rapidly than ever, and the un-sticking of this thread seems like proof.

It wouldn't need constant cleaning if the rules were enforced. An IP ban of the "troll", as ILMJ calls it, followed by removal of its posts, would return this thread to its original purpose. After that, it would simply need general maintenance like anything else. What happened here isn't a thread veering off topic. It's hatred and vandalism.

Apparently "free speech" now includes damn near any kind of racist bashing, disrespect, idiocy, and spam. This is why we can't have nice things.
