The colors red and blue are also featured on the United States flag. When Shooter visited Australia he found a clean, modern country with very likeable and friendly people, incredible climate and some of the most amazing landscape he's ever seen.
Shooter likes Australia and it's people.
He had fun poking at the Aussie "driving on the wrong side of the road" thingy with the Aussies and pointing out that we all speak English, just Aussies don't speak proper english.
They have a wonderful sense of humor and gave back as good as they got.
We had some very enjoyable conversations there, with some amazing people.

Maggie and darkie are the exceptions.
Shooter could imagine either of them having a conversation with any of the other Aussies we met in Australia.

I looked into the whole Red/Blue within the US.
As far as the state election maps go, there was no color distinction prior to 2000, news channels posted whatever color they wanted.

I suspect that what Australians call "liberals" we call "economic conservatives."

Economic conservatives want less government control over economic matters. Social conservatives want more government control over sexual matters. Many Americans are both, but they are different orientations.

 

That's the problem for us Aussies when looking at this thread title!!

In Australia, "liberal" and "conservative" are not terms we really use in politics.

We have 2 major political parties:

Australian Labor Party - They grew out of the Union movement, and are for "the worker". They support public schools and hospitals, they believe in welfare and helping people who are down. It's taken a while, but they are mostly in support of green energy, although there's some internal conflict because of the job losses that will be caused to blue-collar workers during the transition away from coal/oil.

Liberal Party of Australia - These are "our" Republicans, who support business, not individuals. They strip money out of public resources (ie schools and hospitals) and put it into private. They don't believe in climate change. They are anti-human rights (ie gay rights, trans rights).

The Liberal Party realised a long time ago that alone, they don't win elections because not enough Aussies support them, so they formed a coalition with a smaller party, National Party of Australia. Basically - farmers. Their values generally align, though not always. As a result, Australia flips back and forth between these 2 groups, Labor and the Coalition.

As such - we don't talk about "liberals" meaning forward thinkers - to us, Liberals means morons who want us to live in the 50's and have no rights except if you're rich...

(The above may be an oversimplification of the Australian political scene.)

Despite the above, there's been various instances where major change has occurred under the Liberal government. Our gun reform for example happened under John Howard's Liberal government. Here's a guy who fucked the public health system back in the 1990's (and it's still fucked now because of him), by pushing people into using private hospitals in order to get tax cuts. All that happened however, is people take out the cheapest private health cover they can in order to get the tax cuts, and then use the public system anyways because using private hospitals is expensive, but public is free. Meanwhile, the tax cuts are stealing money out of public hospitals... AND YET - this asshole of a man is the person responsible for our 1996 gun reforms.

And more recently, a Liberal government - under a lot of pressure from the people of Australia - called for a poll into whether we wanted to allow gay marriage. We voted YES as a nation. In this instance however, the Prime Minster (head of Liberal party) at the time was a guy called Malcolm Turnbull, and he was by far the most non "Liberal" Liberal ever...

Trump has already spoken with The Comperatore family. I doubt Biden attempted any such call. The 13 brave soldiers whose deaths he engineered in his catastrophically incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan never got a call. One said they received a form letter 7 months later.

To defend our allies.
Bet you didn't know that of the $800 BILLION for US Military spending, almost $80 BILLION goes to humanitarian and emergency response efforts.
You know, like responding to the Christmas day Tsunami. Flying food and shelter into the areas hit and flying out injured.
And when the 2011 earthquakes and tsunami hit Japan, who do you suppose was first on the scene and provided the most aid? The US military.
Indonesia earthquakes: yep, the US Military again was first and most with aid.
Haiti. Ditto

You see, when the shit hits the fan the US Military is probably closest with the means to provide emergency services. No expectation that a receiving country pay for that aid, no expectation that it be returned in kind. Just a humanitarian response to help those in need.

And every time we do that good old "show the flag" tour and land in some country, the military sets up free health clinics to help the local population with their medical needs.
Again, at no charge. Just a desire to help.

Now, Shooter doesn't know how it works in Australia, but American military forces cannot take it upon themselves to attack someone or something. The President of the United States is the only one who can order a military response. The military, you see, serves the US Government and the President is their commander in chief.

So when you go wailing about Going in "guns ablazing" please keep in mind that the US Military has to be told by our politicians to go kill people and break stuff.

If you want to twirl about America and it's "guns a blazing" attitude be sure you call on Sweden et al. next time you or one of your neighbors gets hit with an earthquake, or tsunami or whatever.

We'll worry about our "guns ablazin" approach to defending our freedoms.

Trump indeed negotiated a withdrawal, but it didn't include leaving BILLIONS in military hardware behind and it for damn sure didn't include sacrificing 13 of our best and brightest. And the reason trump could draw down our troop strength was that part of the agreement included no more killing of Americans. And that agreement was honored, wasn't it, right up to the part where brandon started fucking things up.

If brandon had any issue with what Trump negotiated he could have come up with his own plan and worked that out with everyone.
But brandon didn't have an issue with Trump's plan (and neither did the joint chiefs or the Military or our allies) because it was the best way to disengage from that mess. And it would have worked without getting a bunch of people killed and leaving a bunch of dangerous equipment behind except that brandon and his administration can fuck up a ham sandwich, and they royally fucked up that withdrawal.
Including leaving a few thousand Afghanistans behind who had been promised asylum in America for their service to America. Know what the Taliban did with those thousands brandon left behind?
And their families?
